In 2000 Philips asked CD9 to develop a staff sales website that would enable UK employees to purchase Philips products over the Internet.
Strategy
The principal challenge was to dynamically collate a UK database from both international Philips websites and internal systems.
CD9 suggested that as a database of UK products (which heretofore did not exist) would be created, it would also be prudent to create a public UK web portal showing all products available in the UK.
Solution
As data across these disparate sources was stored in various formats (HTML, databases, Word documents and Excel files) CD9 created a bespoke system to capture relevant details from the 10,000 products available and unify them in a single format database.
With the larger number of available products, the additional design issue was to create a navigation system that could display this data in a coherent and transparent fashion. CD9 built the websites to use 3-click navigation along with a suggestive search engine.
